*With Valentines Day on the horizon now is a great time to think of the little ladies in your life just a bit more than the daily love and affection given to them.
The history of Valentines Day seems to be a bit convoluted. Whether it was a religious celebration, an ancient ritual day, or a commercial holiday, these days it’s a day to do something fun, show an extra bit of love, and maybe indulge in some guilty sweet pleasures.
One thing that’s for certain is that Americans spend so much money. Last year alone, Americans purchased over $25 billion dollars on Valentines Day and more than 200 million roses are produced for that one day alone.
You can’t help but notice the busyness of the day. You walk in some stores and are immediately overwhelmed with decorations, people are walking out of stores and flower shops with bouquets of flowers and Valentines Day gifts. Restaurants are overflowing with crowds of people looking to have a special dinner to commemorate the day, and new young couples are walking hand and hand excited to be celebrating with the one they love for the first time.

It doesn’t end there, even the little ones in school are making Valentines Day Crafts to bring home to their parents. They’re also taking on some Valentines Day DIY projects to construct unique and ornate bags and containers to collect the Valentines passed out at school. You’ll find the most basic of boxes with a little slot on top, to bags that “look like” the kiddo:

One year, on each of the 13 days prior, we posted a special message to our girls’ bedroom doors. The purpose was for them to read a truth about themselves as they walked into their individual rooms.
Each day was a pleasant surprise for each of our girls. We gave them words of encouragement, compliments, and bible verses reminding them that they can do all things through Christ. They began to anticipate what message might come next.
Valentines Day
On the 14th, the last heart said ‘will you be my Valentine?’. We spent way less than $200 billion. Well, we did however contribute a bit. We added a gift bag with some special little treats.
Some say that if you want to do something special, do it on any day, why wait for Valentines Day? I agree with that sentiment.
Unfortunately there are some people who don’t think about doing special things until this ‘holiday of sorts’ reminds them.
So, when you put emphasis on this day, and you have a little girl, sure take them to experience what it’s like to get flowers. They’ll be so tickled!
Just don’t forget what matters the most. If you’re going to make this day truly mean something, remind her that in addition to being LOVED, shes also:
