Want to know how to use chalk paint to paint a pedestal table? Just use it!
Seriously does it have to be any more complicated than that? Now I realize that there are a ton of different types of paints out there other thank chalk paint. I’m also aware that there are many different brands, sheens, finishes etc.
I do however believe that sometimes we can over think things. Chalk paint to me is a very forgiving paint and in more cases than not, its being used in some type of vintage manner to add character to a project. In my case, I simply wanted to cover an unsightly orangey pedestal table.
It might be oak but who knows…I’m not an expert on wood either.🤷🏽♀
Deciding to paint this table happened on a whim. There was a definite need to brighten things up. I recall having a conversation wondering how to prep the table as the pedestal and the rim of the table had very intricate detailing.
I didn’t know if I should attempt to sand it or try some sort of degloss liquid. But on this day, I didn’t care. I grabbed the sanding block, gave the table a once over and began to paint. I was quite fortunate to have a little help…literally little.
Explaining chalk paint to her proved to be interesting. She understood the paint part, but where was the chalk?! Ultimately it didn’t matter, as long as she was painting.
We even decided to paint our unsightly piano. When you’re on a roll, might as well keep going! This piano was quite the eyesore. We had been meaning to paint it some time ago. It’s funny how a jolt in life and a major need for distraction can spur you right into action.
The girls had a bit of trepidation with each change, especially my littlest one. She initially felt like I was changing everything. Once I explained to her that her daddy and I had always planned for this, she was fine.
They weren’t quite loving the chalk paint color selection however, it was a sky blue hue.
Ultimately, with some gorgeous golden knobs that we purchased from Hobby Lobby, they approved. I think both are definitely an upgrade.
